Tagging, Artwork, or sadly unwanted Graffiti is sometime not a welcome on Public or Personal Property. Below are a few help tips to assist with the removal.

Scrape off the graffiti with a razor blade, or try paint thinner and rinse the glass clean.

Masonry

Options include sand blasting or power washing. Chemical graffiti remover may also be effective for removing graffiti.

Fiberglass/Aluminum Siding

Sparingly apply paint remover to the surface, and rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Vinyl Siding

Small amounts of chemical solvents work well to remove graffiti. Care should be taken not to remove the vinyl.

Metal

Apply solvents and rub it out with sandpaper or steel wool, which works well. Power washing is another option.

It’s best to remove graffiti by testing a small area using your selected method to see how well the process works.

Home Inspection - Roofing

Home inspections also examine the various components of the building and its systems. Items such as roofing material condition, HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical systems are all included in the inspection and can have their own conditions that are noted in the report.

Roofing:

There are many types of roofs and many more types of roofing materials. Asphalt composite shingles are the most popular type of shingle in the US. The shingles are made of a base mat of organic material or fiberglass which is covered in asphalt and granular material, they can be had in varying colors and some variations may last up to 30 years. When inspecting this type of material you should look for broken shingles, exposed nails and pay attention to the integrity of the granular materials. The asphalt coating waterproofs the shingle and the granules protect it from the sun. If you notice an overabundance of loose granules, or broken shingles, your roof may need attention. Items such as sky lights and roof vents can be an entrance for water intrusion and should also be checked. Inspectors should check for cracked vent boots, caulking and the flanges around sky lights to ensure the materials are intact and in good condition.

Roof inspections are dangerous. However, they are an important part of an inspection and should be approached with extreme caution. With that said, safety, roof materials and roof integrity are always determining factors when conducting a roof inspection. With these factors in mind, Inspectors may physically walk the roof, or, if conditions dictate, may use binoculars. Many inspectors and insurance companies have also moved to using drones to eliminate the dangers involved with physically walking the roof. Drones also allow a more thorough inspection than the use of binoculars allowing the inspector to get close enough to detect small defects such as exposed nails, or broken shingles, and also allow the inspector to take the necessary pictures needed for their report.

A leaking roof can leave water damage well away from the actual leak and cause a variety of issues. Due to these issues, when a defect is found it should be reviewed by a qualified roofing contractor as soon as possible.
